SILVER BIRCH NON-FICTION AWARD winner
HACKMATACK CHILDREN’S CHOICE BOOK AWARD winner
I’ve spent more than 35 years working to protect animals of all kinds. It’s a tough job and while it’s extremely challenging it is still very worthwhile. I’ve met some amazing animals and the people who work to protect them throughout the world, from Canada’s north to tropical Asia. I’m a Chartered Biologist, founder of the wildlife protection organization Zoocheck (please check out our website) and a winner of the prestigious Frederic A. McGrand Lifetime Achievement Award for substantial contributions to animal welfare in Canada.
And, as you know I’m also the author of nine children’s books about animal welfare and wildlife protection.
In my spare time, I go on long distance solo bicycle rides, climb rock faces, explore caves, hike in the wild and travel the world. And it should go without saying that I also spend a lot of time reading.
