About Booking an Event

Rob is available for author visits, readings, workshops, conferences and other kinds of events. If you’re interested in having him speak at your event, please use his Author’s Booking Service page to get in touch. You can also contact him directly at rob@zoocheck.com.

Rob has presented at all kinds of events at schools, libraries, theaters, workshops, conferences and other venues in Canada and around the world (see list of some past presentations) His talks and presentations range from about 15 minutes to full day workshops, so he can usually accommodate almost anything an event may require. For events with younger audiences, he typically uses lots of images and props.

Please note that Rob is flexible and will do whatever he can to try to help with your event. So, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Virtual Visits

Virtual presentations are available, generally run for the same amount of time as in-person presentations and conclude with a Q & A.

Getting Ready for an In-person Visit

To make Rob’s visit a positive experience for everyone involved, here are a few things to think about:

  • For school visits, he likes to schedule a maximum of three presentations per day. Additional presentations may be possible, but please check in advance.
  • Groups of any size can be accommodated including multiple classes and school assemblies, but smaller groups (less than 100) can be more effective in school situations.
  • An LCD (data) projector,  screen (or a light coloured wall), projector stand or table, extension cord, etc. are required for Rob’s slide show images. A laptop, if available, is also useful.
  • For larger groups, some kind of a PA system is required. The worst thing for an audience member at a spoken word event is if the speaker is hard to hear, so let’s make sure that doesn’t happen.
  • A room that can be darkened is best. If the room has a lot of windows, please make sure they’re equipped with blinds or drapes (unless the presentation is after sunset).
  • If books are required for an event, please let Rob know several weeks in advance. For larger events that require larger numbers of books, local booksellers will typically be interested in setting up a table and selling books.
  • Audience members are welcome to bring books to be signed.
  • For school presentations,  teachers, parents, special guests or local media are welcome.

That’s it. Nothing particularly complicated, but having everything ready makes for a better event. If you have any questions, please ask.
